Electromagnetic brakes, also known as excitation brakes, typically consist of components such as magnetic coils

Electromagnetic brakes, also known as excitation brakes, typically consist of components such as magnetic coils, armatures, and rotors. They are devices used to brake, stop, or hold shafts or rotating bodies, and electromagnetic brakes or electromagnetic actuators operated by electromagnetic force.

A single-disc electromagnetic brake is a type of electromagnetic brake, which can also be divided into dry single-disc, dry multi-disc, wet multi-disc, magnetic powder brakes, and slip types. Today, we will mainly introduce the characteristics and precautions for using single-disc electromagnetic brakes.

Applications of single-disc electromagnetic brakes: Electromagnetic brakes are general-purpose transmission equipment, widely used in printing, packaging, automation equipment, machine tools, and other fields. The above industrial machinery all require electromagnetic brakes for transmission equipment, and their use must be ensured. For example, the service life of the electromagnetic brake is one of the guarantees.

The working principle of a dry single-disc electromagnetic brake is as follows: When the coil is energized, it generates magnetic force to attract the armature disc, and the clutch becomes connected; when the coil power is cut off, the armature rebounds, and the clutch becomes disconnected. The working principle is the same as that of dry and wet multi-disc electromagnetic brakes, except that it has a few more additional friction pairs. The torque of the same volume is greater than that of the dry single-disc, and the wet multi-disc needs to be cooled with oil or other coolant during operation.

  Characteristics of single-disc electromagnetic brakes:

  1. High-speed response: Because it is dry, torque transmission is fast and movement is convenient.

  2. Durable: Good heat dissipation, using advanced materials, it is very durable even under high-frequency and high-energy use.

  3. Easy to assemble and maintain: It is a static shape of the magnetic field coil embedded in the ball bearing, no need to remove the core or use carbon brushes, simple to use.

  4. Accurate action: Using plate-type leaf springs, even with large vibrations, it will not loosen, and it is durable.

So how to ensure the service life of the electromagnetic brake? Consider from the following aspects:

  1. Electromechanical friction material, new friction materials have a longer service life than conventional friction materials.

  2. Load characteristics, dynamic load torque, and static load torque.

  3. Action reflection time, that is, the energization cut-off and open-circuit time will shorten the service life of the electromagnetic brake.

  4. Brush material life, good quality can extend the service life of the electromagnetic brake.

Electromagnetic brakes can be installed on coaxial or abutting shafts, but the coaxiality of the two shafts must be ensured. After installation, do not allow friction between the fork and the disc, and the gap should not exceed the specified gap. The gap between the rotor and the armature should ensure the specified size.
